You can tap them to see a collection of public Snaps from that location or event. They are mostly visual markers but have interactive elements since they let you explore Snaps from that hotspot. You can influence them indirectly by posting Snaps from a location, especially if many people do the same around the same time, which can help trigger a planet to appear.
