The most notable recent change to the PTE exam pattern came in late 2021, when Pearson reduced the overall test duration from nearly three hours to just about two. This update aimed to make the exam more accessible and less exhausting, without compromising on the accuracy of the scoring. Tasks such as the number of “Reading: Fill in the Blanks” and “Listening: Write from Dictation” were slightly reduced in quantity.
Despite the shorter format, the core structure remains the same, with Speaking & Writing, Reading, and Listening as the three main sections. The scoring algorithm was untouched, maintaining fairness and AI consistency. These adjustments to the PTE exam pattern have made the test more time-efficient while preserving its ability to accurately assess English language proficiency.
