Chunking and pausing are powerful techniques that can significantly enhance your performance in the PTE repeat sentence task. Chunking refers to breaking down a sentence into smaller, meaningful units, such as phrases or short word groups. This technique reduces cognitive load and helps your brain retain and recall information more easily. For example, instead of trying to remember a 12-word sentence as one long chain, breaking it into three groups of four words makes it more manageable.

When speaking, subtle pausing between these chunks can improve fluency and make your speech sound more natural. However, these pauses should not be too long, as the PTE system may interpret extended silence as hesitation or lack of fluency. Practice listening to sample sentences and mentally chunking them while listening—then repeat them aloud with slight, rhythmic pauses. Incorporating these methods into your PTE repeat sentence practice sessions can lead to more accurate recall and a smoother delivery.
